How do smart people end up doing meaningless work?

It usually hinges on whether your decisions are made with a feeling of Fear or a feeling of Power.

Watch the video below. This is a scene that plays out in corporate meeting rooms around the world. Are you an expert who faced this dilemma? How did you respond?

Have you seen smart people remaining quiet or unable to influence decisions made during meetings?

Each management decision sets in motion a chain of actions that leads either to prosperity OR despair.

Remember: The best intervention is at the point of decision. Don’t keep quiet or suffer in silence. Lack of profile, presence and persuasion significantly diminishes your power.

Here is the thing. Do you influence decisions that could affect you? OR Do you follow directions set by others? Do you speak up when you need to? OR Do you let go, hoping things will get better? Are you able to persuade without raising your voice?

If you are held up in such situations, there are three options to consider.

Persuade, Push back or Perish.

To intervene effectively, you need to be able to persuade and influence the decision-makers. The ability to see from the other person’s perspective and ensuring that they see yours is paramount. Consciously cultivate the ability to persuade or push back when you realise the adverse consequences of such decisions.

Otherwise, you might perish under the truckload of meaningless effort. These situations are often the opportunity to develop your leadership skills.
